Service Operations Manager
Sittingbourne
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Service Operations Manager based at our Sittingbourne depot. The Operations Manager role purpose, is to actively manage, control and develop the service department operations within agreed parameters and budgets in a safe and economical manner and to contribute to the formulation of the company’s future strategy. Duties and Responsibilities include: 1) The management of the service departments operational activities including the planning and organisation of service schedules and breakdown requests, ensuring supporting labour and parts are available in an economic manner, and the quality of service provided by direct staff is maintained. 2) The evaluation, costing and authorization of service quotations, hire contract sales etc. within agreed limits. 3) Responsibility for the quality and safety of work carried out by direct staff, and others as applicable, ensuring that on completion of work equipment is safe to use, is reliable or that suitable warnings have been given as appropriate and that customer satisfaction and safety levels are maintained. 4) The promotion, control and implementation of the companies strategy for the service department in order to meet company targets for service sales, service contracts, equipment hire, service quality, etc. - ensuring their growth and profitability. 5) The management and control of depot and/or department operational expenditure within agreed budgets. 6) Responsibility for direct reporting staff, i.e. their recruitment, assessment, training, discipline and administrative support ensuring company procedures, as noted in the procedures manual, are adhered to at all times 7) Responsibility for the health and safety of direct reporting staff both within and outside the depot, as detailed in the companies health and safety policy. 8) As is necessary the establishment and maintenance of appropriate systems for the measurement of agreed management processes including their development and the periodic and regular reporting on these operational issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements etc. within agreed formats and timescales. 9) Co-ordination and co-operation with other company departments and employees as applicable ensuring they are kept fully informed of service department objectives, purposes, problems and achievements etc. and where necessary ensuring their approval is obtained for issues outside your remit. 10) The responsibility for ensuring that local activities meet with the organisational, and legal requirements for quality management, health and safety, environmental policies, employment law and the company’s general duty of care. 11) Where applicable, responsibility for the management and control of the department’s physical resources, including buildings, vehicles, equipment etc., ensuring that they are maintained and inspected as required by any relevant statute, or company procedure, and are kept in a safe, presentable condition. The role includes control of engineers daily workloads, arranging service work, producing quotations, processing engineer time sheets, booking services for our customers, taking hire enquiries, and various other administration duties for the business. You must be computer literate and accurate in your approach, and be able to work to strict deadlines. As the role also includes telephone conversations with customers, and working with other departments throughout the business, a friendly and helpful manner is essential for this important position. A full driving licence is essential. Experience in the maintenance and repair of materials handling equipment, coupled with excellent fault diagnostic skills would be advantageous. To be successful, you must be well organised, and possess a courteous and friendly manner.
